…then it probably is!
I cannot stay and watch from the outside how our teenagers are affected by these manipulation techniques!
I don’t know if this happened to you too, but each one of us have a friend, a child, maybe ourselves, that struggled with some inexplicable behaviours and we got to see the pain and suffering it brought to them/us.
As parents, I think we should make our teenagers aware of the fact that such behavior exists and some people adopt it for their own benefit, unfortunately.
I know it can be dissapointing for them to hear/read about this, but I also think that prevention is way better than having to heal a broken young heart.
So, the scene is often a relationship at it’s starting point, maybe a few encounters.
WHAT I WOULD TELL MY TEENS?!
“If you hear “I love you!” after just a few dates…RUN!
If you feel overwhelmed with constant texts, calls, and messages, and you’re expected to respond immediately…RUN!
If they tell you over the top compliments like “you are the answer to all of my prayers” or “you’re my soulmate” early in the relationship…RUN!
If they make immediate promises about the future, put you on a pedestal and/or shower you with expensive gifts…RUN!
Once someone flatters with excessive adoration, over time the adoration will disappear and you’ll be left wandering what just happened. This will make you feel insecure and loose trust in yourself, things that will allow them to start controlling and abusive behavior. That way, you are reshaped into the image they want you to be.
As they requested all of your time and attention, it will be hard for you to find a friend to talk to when you feel that something is wrong about all of this, because you didn’t had the time to entertain other relationships and you’ll be “trapped” into this abusive relationship.
Nevertheless, I will always be here for you, as I love you and you are my child…and together will get through anything!
I would just prefer for you to come to me as soon as you notice some of these behaviors.”
I hope this will help!!!
LOVE U!
